I was going to fly to HK today and it does take about 2-3 hours to get to the airport. My flight departs at 6pm so we pretty much left home at about 1pm.
We were able to time ourselves and get onto the right train so we could avoid taking the Narita Express. The Narita Express is quite a few times more expensive than taking the local trains, and it’s not that we didn’t have to transfer if we went on the Express. Plus, it wasn’t that much quicker once we used my friend’s phone (yes I need to tell you about that amazing phone some time) to find a good non-express route.
When we arrived at the airport we were pretty hungry although we did pack some snacks for the train ride. There were probably about 20 restaurants at the airport, and we were surprised that the restaurants weren’t charging outrageous prices like in the US because they can.
I sort of wanted some Ramen, so we tried this ramen shop called Arashi. For 680 yen it wasn’t expensive at all and the ramen was pretty good. I think they used a lot of garlic in the soup base, so it smelled great and was extremely tasty.
I got onto the plane and there were all these HKers who also went on a shopping spree in Japan. Everyone had additional bags of gifts, toys, etc that were quite large and surprisingly fit in the overhead bins. I started to think that they actually have these custom made extra large bins that could accommodate shoppers from HK LOL…
The flight was ok and I was surprised that Northwest actually was better than United. For one the food was way better. I’m not picky when it comes to food that goes into my mouth (though I could tell the difference between great food and good food), the food on United was disgusting.
I arrived in HK safely and it was raining. I’m sort of glad to be back, but still missing Japan. I really like Japan.
